Embark on an 8-day adventure to discover Bhutan’s natural and cultural treasures. Journey through the Himalayan foothills, passing through traditional villages and lush rice paddies. Witness the majestic Punakha Dzong, explore bustling markets in Thimphu, and marvel at the stunning views from Dochula Pass.
The journey begins in Delhi, where we’ll take a short flight to Paro before heading to Thimphu, the capital city. Here, we’ll discover the region’s rich cultural heritage, from ancient temples to colourful festivals.
The journey continues to Punakha, a small town nestled in the Himalayan mountains, where we’ll explore the region’s stunning landscapes and breathtaking monasteries. We’ll then head back to Paro, where we’ll discover the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery, one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks. Our journey concludes in Paro, leaving you with memories of a lifetime and a deeper appreciation for this fascinating culture.

Majestic river junction fortress:
Explore Punakha Dzong, a restored 17th-century fortress at the confluence of the Po Chu and Mo Chu rivers, showcasing its original glory despite past fires, earthquakes, and floods.

Monastery treasures and breathtaking views: Wind through pine forests to Zuri Dzong, visit Ta Dzong’s National Museum with stunning Paro views and explore Rinpung Dzong, a fortress adorned with precious jewels.

On arrival, transfer by road to Thimphu (approximately 01 hour and 30 minutes drive) and check in at Taj Tashi Hotel.

The National Memorial Chorten, a huge stupa built in 1974 by the wife of the Third king of Bhutan in memory of her husband, is today a pious landmark for Thimphu’s residents, Bhutan’s National Library, which is located close to the Institute of Arts and Crafts, and contains a large collection of ancient manuscripts, religious artefacts, and other interesting religious objects.
Visit the Institute of Arts and Crafts, where the young Bhutanese students are taught the traditional art of painting Thangkas, making both clay and bronze statues, embroidery, and other fine arts, the Folk Heritage Museum, and the Institute of Traditional Medicine Practices.
Also, explore the Handicrafts Emporium, which displays a wide assortment of beautifully hand-woven and crafted products.
Visit Tashichhodzong
In the evening, after 5.00 pm, visit the Tashichhodzong situated on the banks of Wang Chu.
It is home to the National Assembly and the summer residence of the capital’s venerated monastic community. The Dzong is the impressive result of redesigning the original mediaeval structure sanctioned by the Third King, HM Jigme Dorgi Wangchuck.
If time permits, you can visit the traditional Bhutanese paper-making unit and the traditional gold and silver smith units.

Transfer by road to Punakha across Dochula Pass (10,500 feet), heralding Bhutan’s most enchanting views on a clear day (approximately 03 hours and 30 minutes drive, including stop).

Sightseeing tour of Punakha
Visit Punakha Dzong, built in the 17th Century at the junction of the Po Chu and Mo Chu rivers. It was destroyed by four fires and an earthquake in 1897 and has frequently been devastated by flood water from the great northern glaciers. The Dzong has now been fully restored to its original splendour.

Begin with a beautiful hike from the Punakha Lodge along the Mo Chu through terraces of rice, chilies, and cabbage, taking you to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a monument built by the four queens of Bhutan.
Heading down the valley, stop to view the stunning Punakha Dzong and take a picnic lunch on the banks of the river or in a secret village high above the valley floor.

Transfer by road to Paro (approximately 03 hours and 30 minutes drive)
On arrival, check-in at Como Uma Paro Resort.
This beautiful valley is home to many of Bhutan’s oldest temples and monasteries, the country’s only airport, and the National Museum. Mount Chomolhari reigns in glory at the valley’s northern end, and its glacial waters plunge through deep gorges to form the Pa Chu (Paro River).

Brief city sightseeing tour of Paro, visiting Zurig Dzong, Rinpung Dzong, Ta Dzong, and Paro market.
Wind through pine forests high above Uma Paro to the pretty grounds of the fortress-like monastery of Zuri Dzong. Traverse across to Ta Dzong, housing Bhutan’s National Museum (open Tuesday-Saturday) with magnificent views over Paro, and on down to visit Rinpung Dzong’ Fortress on a Heap of Jewels. The trail then leads across Paro Chu (river) via a traditional covered bridge (Nyamai Zam) and then past the main archery ground, Ugyen Pelri Palace, and into Paro town.

Proceed for the Highlights of the Paro Valley – Taktsang Walk, Drukgyel Dzong, and Kyichu Lhakhang.
One of Bhutan’s most unique and essential pieces of architecture, Taktsang Goemba, defies logic, gravity, and reason.
An early start is advisable for the two-hour climb, via the cafeteria, to the Tiger’s Nest viewpoint to avoid the hot sun.
Drive further up the valley to Drukgyel Dzong, built in 1644 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.
The route is picturesque, and the site of Dzong is magnificent (from here, only a two-day hike to the border with Tibet, dominated by Mt Jomolhari). Later pay due respects at Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan with its magic orange tree, which bears fruit all year round.
