Greaves Travel Ltd, UK
Greaves can offer a unique and expert experience to the modern traveller. Expect an impeccable level of service from your first point of contact to your last moments in India.
The Cambata family have owned Greaves Travel since 1979 and their professional and cultural roots in India stretch back several generations prior to that. Armed with specialist knowledge of the Sub-Continent having taken clients there for over 40 years, Greaves can offer a unique and expert experience to the modern traveller.

Right from fruition nearly five decades ago, Greaves Travel Ltd, UK have been committed to providing conscious & sustainable travel. Long before it was in trend, as a family-owned business Greaves have always been personally committed to ensuring that the very culture, communities, heritage and wildlife that we were promoting was and is being protected and preserved.

From dining in india’s most prestigious palaces to hiking its perilous peaks, meditating in its humblest ashrams to exploring its furthest forts, greaves’ uk director tanya dalton has seen more of the subcontinent than most. Despite this, india continues to enchant her. As condé nast traveller’s india travel specialist, she draws on a lifetime of experience and a black book of distinguished contacts to create a bespoke india itinerary unlike any other. Here, tanya shares why 2020 is the year to visit.
For Tanya, India is a timeless destination that evokes the senses and delivers every holiday experience imaginable. She is constantly charmed by India and welcome the unexpected quirks along the way. Her favourite state is Karnataka with its prehistoric landscapes, deserted lost empires, empty white beaches and uncharted wildlife wilderness.

Q1. How have you observed the concept of conscious travel evolving in recent years, and what role does Greaves Travel play in promoting conscious luxury travel experiences?

Since the beginning, Greaves Travel have always believed in low impact, conscious & sustainable tourism. We have been involved with several charities and initiatives that are all dedicated to persevering and maintaining the indigenous cultures, heritage, and wildlife that India has to offer.

Q2. Could you highlight some of the initiatives that Greaves Travel is actively involved in to contribute to the well-being of local communities and environments?

Greaves Travel, Chairman Mehra Dalton was amongst the founding members of both Jaisalmer in Jeopardy and TOFT – Tour Operators for Tigers. Over time Greaves have adopted several other charities such as Frank Water, The Pink City Rickshaws and Salaam Baalak Trust.

Q3. What specific measures has Greaves Travel implemented to ensure genuine and committed sustainable travel practices? Can you share examples of how these practices have positively impacted the destinations your customers visit?

Toft, Tour Operators for Tigers, receive a donation every time a client visits a wildlife reserve in India, and we look to include as many NGO and non profit organisations that we can to help improve the lives of those they support, such as Pink City Rickshaws and Salaam Baalak Trust. We will also ensure that the hotels with the strongest responsible tourism practices, are our preferred partners.

Q4. How does Greaves Travel educate and raise awareness among travellers about the importance of sustainable travel? Are there specific programs or initiatives in place to encourage responsible and mindful travel behaviour?

Whilst I believe the world has moved on a long way and sustainable and conscious travel are now part of most people’s lexicon, we all have a lot more to do to ensure that these precious environments, cultures, and habitats are maintained. I would love to think that in the next few years, we can commit to ceasing all single use plastic and ensuring we can provide experiences within every city and state where we can prove, directly contribute back to the communities they are promoting.

Q5. How do you envision the role of conscious luxury travel evolving within the travel industry?

I think the luxury traveler has a duty to ensure that they are not only leaving any negative impact but that through travel they are helping preserve and fund the very culture that they have come to enjoy thereby preserving it for they future generations to enjoy.
